Anambra State Governor Mr Willie Obiano has sworn in the country’s youngest Commissioner, Mr Okoye. He is to be in charge of Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new commissioner took place during the State Executive Council Meeting at the Government House in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Speaking on why he chose the 30-year-old, Governor Obiano said: “His appointment is consistent with my insistence on quality, merit and his youth-friendly stance”.
According to him, Okoye had been a key member of the state’s Economic Team and had played very strategic role in the development of the economic blueprint of the state.
The Governor, therefore, urged him to bring his wealth of academic knowledge and experience in financial management to bear in his new assignment.
The Commissioner’s appointment was confirmed last week by the Anambra State House of Assembly after serving as the Special Adviser on Economic Planning and Budget to the Governor.
In his speech, the Commissioner commended the Governor for his appointment which he described as a bold statement on the abundant potentials that abound in Nigerian Youths and on the need for government at all levels to give them a chance.
He promised to ensure that the State remained progressive in its economic policies.
